Looking To The Future SolidStreaming has created the SolidStream System. The SolidStream System is a plug and play solution for the streaming of data to mobile devices. The System was designed for ease of deployment by potential users. The system is comprised of a 2G solution and a 3G solution. Full compatibility is achieved with all current operating systems including Pocket PC, Palm, Epoc, Nokia, as well as Sun Java Virtual Machine. The Systems size allows for easy deployment via Internet download, OEM embedding or at the time of the mobile devices activation. The system is a multi-platform client-server application, which permits the transmission of live or pre-encoded data, video and/or audio to mobile devices, as well as two-way audio visual communication between those devices. The system combines both a server application, which allows a customer to stream content, and a client application, which allows for the reception and playing of the stream. The system also includes an application that converts existing data files (QuickTime, AVI, etc.) into a format that can be delivered to the client by the server application in an on-demand fashion. 2G Solution: Recognizing that a gap of time would exist prior to the deployment of the next generation 3G networks and handsets, SolidStreaming set out to create a plug and play solution, which could be widely deployed immediately. The SolidStream 2G solution was designed exclusively for the purpose of streaming multimedia content today. The 2G solution solves the problems of streaming over low bit rate networks which have limited or inconsistent bandwidth, combined with mobile devices which have limited scratch memory, limited CPU power, and limited display capabilities. In the resource expensive world of today's embedded devices these all can be major problems. The system utilizes the companies own proprietary video codec optimized for imaging in black and white, gray scale, or color, and a minuscule client application capable of being squeezed into current generation cellular handsets. The system does not require high-powered CPU processing to decompress and display images. The system was designed to be seamlessly integrated with current generation WAP browsers to give handset users the most enjoyable browsing experience. What all this means is that companies can deploy multimedia content today even in a 9.6 KBPS environment instead of waiting till the next generation of networks and handsets are available. The 3G Solution: SolidStreaming recognized that the next generation networks and mobile devices will be substantially improved and they will eliminate many of the problems that currently exist in the 2G world. To take advantage of the impending improvements in the networks and mobile devices, SolidStreaming has created our 3G solution. These improvements will eliminate many of the problems that currently exist. To take advantage of the impending improvements SolidStreaming has created our 3G solution. The 3G solution is a plug and play solution designed to support the diverse requirements of content owners, carriers, and device makers seeking to enable both business-to-business and consumer wireless multimedia access. The 3G system is an end to end, MPEG4 software solution. The SolidStream server is optimized for content providers and multimedia delivery services. Its supports cost effective encoding and archiving of content over scalable wireless and wireline networks. The server can be deployed at the content owner's front end or at any number of points along the delivery chain. Once content is encoded it can be delivered at variable bitrates, from as low as 9.6 kbps to 768 kbps and higher, depending on network capabilities. Thus content owners do not need to repeatedly re-encode content as network bandwidth grows, and they can amortize encoding costs across a large audience. The SolidStreaming client application supports audio and video steaming at variable bitrates, as well as two-way audiovisual communication. In addition to these applications, the flexibility of the SolidStreaming client applications technology enables a variety of other solutions. The SolidStreaming client application is particularly robust in conditions where random errors, channel fading, and packet loss are experienced. This robust decoding capability significantly improves the user experience in error-prone environments. The system can come pre-embedded in silicon and on various device platforms, including PDAs, digital handsets and SmartPhones. The client application can also be downloaded to various devices as needed by end users. The system architecture also incorporates tools that assist in managing multimedia bitstreams, thus assisting in the reduction of network congestion while improving capacity. |
